Description
Built in 1873, the Last Stop building has housed many ventures over the years. Grain and carriages were sold in the beginning. Early in the1900's it was the home of Archie Fenton and he built Howard Blackburn's sloop, the "Great Republic" in his boatshop in the back. On completion it was an easy launch into Smith Cove at the edge of the property. But it has been one of Gloucester's many markets, supplying her boats with provisions for most of the years. Today, coffee, muffins, sandwiches and gifts have taken the place of "meat and potatoes", but the locals and summer tourists can still often find what they need in a pinch on the shelves.
